History

The Day family has had a long and successful association in seed stock production with both Poll Hereford cattle and a number of meat breed sheep.

Allen Day (Lachy’s Grandfather) started his Allendale Suffolk stud in 1931, at Alma North of Adelaide in South Australia. This followed by Dorset Horns in 1938 which were converted to Poll Dorset in the early 1960’s. These Suffolk’s and Poll Dorset’s gave Graham (his son) the base for breeding White Suffolk’s which he started as a founding member of the breed in 1985.
Allen also founded a Poll Hereford herd in 1949 meaning the Day family now has the oldest registered Poll Hereford herd in South Australia.

During their time at Alma Allen, Campbell and Graham also ran a very successful large White and Landrace pig studs.  They moved to Bordertown in 1960 and continued to farm together (Allen passed away in 1974) until 1989.

In 1989 Campbell and Graham and their families dissolved partnership with Campbell taking the commercial livestock business and Graham the Allendale Seed stock herd and flock.

This continued with much success until generational change came again in 2009.  Alastair and Jayne retained the Allendale Prefix with half the Poll Herefords and the Suffolk and Poll Dorset flocks.  Lachy and Lou took over the White Suffolk’s and half the Poll Herefords under the new Prefix of “DAYS” trading in the name of:
